I haven't used the material design icons per se, however would it involve the following?
- go here and obtain the min.css file and place into webapps directory (https://materialicons.github.io/)
- add to startup.html "<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/icon?family=Material+Icons">"
- add to startup.html "<link rel="stylesheet" href="/path/to/css/material-icons.min.css">"
- call icons via "mi mi-face"
