Can't get badges to show with <<object.attribute>>

I'm trying to place a badge on a form section tab which lists comments and changes. I want to alert users to unread instances. My first attempts were admittedly ambitious and might strain the functionality of the badge feature:

<<LIST_SIZE(Consideration.ConsiderationHistory)>> - <<Count ConsiderationHistory WHERE (ConsiderationHistory.Consideration=Consideration AND LoggedInPerson IN ConsiderationHistory.pm_Read)>>

and

<<Count ConsiderationHistory WHERE (ConsiderationHistory.Consideration=Consideration)>> - <<Count ConsiderationHistory WHERE (ConsiderationHistory.Consideration=Consideration AND LoggedInPerson IN ConsiderationHistory.pm_Read)>>

So I gradually pared it down in order to just show a badge. I got down to <<Consideration.ID>> and <<LoggedInPerson.ID>> and even that didn't show a badge. I got so desperate to see a badge, I resorted to entering numbers like 1 and formulas like 3-1. That finally worked. So the badges will show, just not with objects/attributes.

What am I doing wrong?

Badges only show numbers. And I found the best way to use them is to allocate a specific attribute (if I need to make some calculations or etc) and use that attribute for my badge.

I'm happy to convert calculations to attribute values if that's what's needed to show badges. But <<form_object.ID>> is a number that's in context, so why doesn't the badge show?

Just figured out the problem. The <<>> are not needed even though the instructions seem to call for them.
