Form / Page Field Validation

Dear all,

i want to know, how it is possible, to implement field Validation, when entering data into a editable grid.
For example, there are 3 Lines (records); each records represents a line (position) within an order.

In the record there exists following fields:

Order Quantity
Delivered Quantity
Quantity to delivery

There exists following rules:
Quantity to deliver = Order Quantity - Delivered Quantity

Whenever i Change the Order quantity field, the System should fire following rules:
Order Quantity must not be less then Delivered quantity AND
Order Quantity + Delivered Quantity must not be less zero
Quantity to delivery = Order Quantity - Delivered Quantity

Whenever i Change the Quantity to deliver, the System should fire following rule:
Quantity to delivery + Delivered Quantity must not be greather than Order Quantity AND
Quantity to delivery + Delivered Quantity Must not be less Zero

Where i can put These rules and are the executed on Client side (means, whenever i leave the field with the [Enter] or [Tab] Key?
The field Validation should work in each line with the values of the respective line.

Could you help me in this case?

Hi Peter;

As you know the nature of Aware is a Server Side system, where the rule engine gets executed, as we "submit" data from client to server whether it's a form a line in grid. That's how it works out of the box and that's when business rules get triggered. So, "if" you can to design your app, i.e. to have an edit form to popup for user to enter those values and then run some process to do validations and if it fails, report an error to undo the changes to Database.

The way you describe it, might be possible via jQuery Ajax to to talk to Aware's backend to execute rules via jQuery, (I'm not a jQuery expert) and be able to accomplish that, but it's a lot more work that following Aware's natural way.

forget JQuery, just use basic object rules on the rules Reference Object and Main Object (if needed) while setting the checkbox on the rule to "Use Rule In Dynamic Re-Calculation On Forms"

But he wants the validation to be done BEFORE he makes any commitment to DB, Even Dynamic re-calculation will require to trigger the rules during save to DB. He wants it all at client side done before reaching to backend.

if the validation rule fails then there is no SUBMIT....unless I am missing something

I agree, and that's why in my first post I stated that using current Aware's system, even though it hits the server side, but if fails it will not save the data. That was my suggestion too, but if he wants all done at client before hitting server side, he may have to use jQuery to talk to Aware via Ajax calls or RPC.

AC/DC is right - there is no need to use jQuery. Just define your validation rules for the object and mark them as "dynamic" (i.e. executed on a client)
