Vlad has said you are supposed to install in the same location.
But I believe if you are using MySQL or SQL Server, you can install in a diff directory because the data files are not "under" the Aware dir.
I installed in c:\Aware80 directory, then dragged files over from c:\Aware71 (props, startup.html, images, CSS, custom Login htmls, etc)
I think Derby files are physically under Aware root.
Sure would be nice if just the main EXE (or JAR, whatever it is) could be dragged into the production directory, now that fewer files will be changing each update.
