Using IN in a Protect rule

I would like to use a protect rule based on whether an object is part of a peer reference. Here's the idea which doesn't work:

IF Customer NOT(IN LoggedInManager.Customers) THEN READ PROTECT Customer From Manager

You get the idea. In the above, Customers (plural) is the reference attribute to Customer. Peer relationship with many. So I'm looking for a way to determine whether the two objects have been related. Seems simple. Doesn't seem I can use NOT and IN together in any way.

What if you say:

If Customer.ParentManager <> LoggedInManager THEN READ PROTECT Customer From LoggedInManager

Where the "ParentManager" is a reference in Customer as parent object.

Doesn't work because the object is a peer and there is no distinct parent. Have to use the IN statement to test whether it is referenced by the object. But IN is a positive statement and I need a negative statement, like NOT IN.

It should work, because you're checking for the existence of the manager reference in customer and if it is the same (or not the same) as loggedin manager.

I'm not sure IN works for peer relation.

rule on Customer object

IF Customer.Manager <>LoggedInManager THEN READ PROTECT Customer From Manager

IF NOT(EXISTS LoggedInManager WHERE Customer IN LoggedInManager.Customers) THEN READ PROTECT Customer From Manager
..it might need a ( after WHERE

Option2
could restructure Option1 to use COUNT =0

Option3
IF Customer IN LoggedInManager.Customers THEN
0=0
ELSE
READ PROTECT Customer From Manager

Try:

If NOT(EXISTS Customer WHERE (Customer IN LoggedInManager.Customers AND Customer.ID=ThisCustomer.ID))
 Then READ PROTECT Customer FROM Manager
