Calling a URL in the background

Does anyone know of a way to call a URL from a Process (or any other way) in the background from Aware.
I dont need to open a web page and don't want the user to see the URL.

I am using Bulksms to send an email. The following URL work perfectly (username, password and mobile changed)

https://bulksms.vsms.net/eapi/submission/send_sms/2/2.0?username=myusername&password=mypassword&message=This is a demo Message&msisdn=mobilenumber

I used this in a past life in Magic with a HTTPPOST function but cannot find a similar functionality in Aware.

The only problem I've had using URL_CONTENTS is when you need to actually act on any structured contents that is returned. My method has been to create a temporary python script which I execute to call the URL and parse the information that comes back. I typically have assembled that info into a CSV that I then import into AwareIM. I've used this for making REST requests that return XML or JSON data structures. Be happy to show this technique at the next Aware IM conference.

Any chance there could be a conference during northern hemisphere ski season so I could combine a holiday 😃

I would VERY happily do a conference here Dave but I imagine you would be the only attendee along with me.... especially in the Winter.
It would certainly be an experience and it is relatively cheap here.

I return just to a string and all works fine without going outside Aware.
