Remote Server Setup

I'm working through trying to set up a remote server and I have come across something in the documentation that doesn't tie up with the contents of the files I have downloaded

4. Under Linux operating system perform the following steps:
a. Unpack the archive file with the Configuration Tool component
(ConfigTool.tar.gz) to some local directory on your client machine (we assume it
is called AwareIM).
b. Modify the file AwareIM/bin/UIConfig.props to include the name of your
“server” machine in the LAN. For example,
            HostServer=myAwareIMServerName
c. To start the Configuration Tool change to the AwareIM/bin directory on your client machine and run the ClientStarterStandalone.sh script.

I can't find a ConfigTooltar.gz and I can't find ClientStarterStandalone.sh.

I have downloaded v7.1

Can anyone help please

I assume you plan to run the server under Linux. What OS do you want to run the configurator on, Linux, OS X or Windows?

Thanks for replying Bruce, I should've said I am setting up Linux server and Mac local machine. I ended up getting in touch with support.

I am in the process of getting a remote setup in place on Google Cloud Compute. I'm just ironing out a final snag and then I will post my outline notes (not step by step as I didn't start takin notes until too late).

There are a few elements that are missing as you work through the installation guide.

Then, I can help you since I am using Mac (OS X) to remote into a server (happens to be a windows server, but the client config is the same)

1). Install the Aware OS X version on your client
2) . Go to Applications and Right click on your AwareIM application and select Show Package Contents
3). Navigate down to Resources / Java and copy the JAVA folder to a folder where you plan to run the aware client from (there is more stuff than you need, but this is easy)
4). Now, in that folder, edit the bin/startupOptions.props file to set the right IP address (like it tells you in the manual)
5) the bin folder has the ClientStarter.sh

You should be all set (assuming you have the appropriate ports open on your firewalls.)

Thanks Bruce, I like the idea of moving the Java folder, I was contemplating editing the sh file in Contents/MAcOS/startAwareIM

I think I've already got the client to server all set up, I'm just working out how to best work the server to MySQL connection as Google Cloud Compute uses an SQL proxy to communicate which means that you can leave all the Basserver.props to point to localhost keeping the server details all hidden. I'm just having a bit of trouble getting everything to launch properly and consistently.
