Picture Attribute Question for Support

If I have an attribute of type picture that holds an image in DB, my question is, when I do query on that BO and the Picture attribute is NOT selected, does Aware create a SELECT statement that EXCLUDES that picture attribute?
Another words, having Picture attribute does not affect the fetch performance if the picture is not retrieved?

Please forgive me on this. Do you mean "IS" currently Optimized or do you mean "Should be" optimized sometime in the future?
