Error Updating BSV and Data on AWS

Hello,

Just need to confirm if I am updating my test BSV and test data correctly when I update on AWS.
I export my current BSV from my local drive.
Then Export all test data from MYSQL Using Create and Replace existing Data
On my AWS EC2 Instance I then import the new BSV in the configurator
Then Enter Test mode and Exit Test Mode
Then Import all the MYSQL Data using Heidi SQL to import and Drop the tables and replace all the data.

This has been working but last time I did it I got a SQL error on import saying one of the new attributes I added could not be found.

I have NOT published the BSV yet so I only have data in the Test DB.

What am I missing, I am still adjusting DB tables and not ready to publish anything yet. I figured it would be easier to just take a copy of my local test data to keep everything in sync.

i've been doing similar to this recently - ms sql.
i've loaded tons of data outside of aware, including the ID's and reference (om/ob/etc) IDs.
AIM doesn't seem to know or care whats being done "out there".

SO, the key is in your error msg.
If it said a column couldn't be found, then its telling you where the error is and something is wrong BEFORE AWARE on the SQL side.
So the table defs don't match on both systems.
Using Heidi, do you see a column missing?
The way the tables are named with the long prefix BASTESTDBDOMAINetcetc can get confusing.

I was able to fix it.
I dropped the table in question that said it could not find the attribute.
Then I import just that table and ran the sql it generated. That created a fresh table def.
The attribute now displays in the table. I was able to create a record without any errors.

I figured if I replaced all the data it would keep things in sync?
When I import the BSV and put it in test mode it should check to see if any changed need to be made to the DB shouldn't it?

Be careful to make sure the value in BAS_IDGEN is not now out of sync.

Go back to your laptop version and have a look at the value.... lets say it is 100,000

On you server go and set it to 200,000

If you don't Aware will create overlapping IDs and screw all your data up

Interesting, on my local DB bas.idgen the ID is 1,513,787 Only one record, but on the EC2 instance.
There are two records
1,329,270
1,479,182

Not sure where the 2nd record came from?

delete the two on the server and add a new one 2,000,000

When I Add or Remove an attribute from a BO then export it and import the BSV on the EC2 Instance it make the changes to the DB on the EC2 Instance when I put it in Test mode correct?

Correct....

I have moved away from transferring the new bsv to the server and importing it or placing it in the AUTO_DEPLOYMENT folder.
Now I generally only ever upload the new bsv via the browser. It just means that now and again you need to go into the configurator on the server and delete the Obsolete Versions

Sounds like a plan. Even thought I am not publishing it to producing loading via the browser is probably the safer way to go. The users still have to logout and log back in to get the latest version correct?

Yes they do Roger but it saves you having to restart Aware as is required when using AUTO_DEPLOYMENT and saves you needing to RDP into you EC2 in any event.

Looks like you cant upload a new BSV in Test Mode.
I tried it and received an error?

That is not the purpose. the three methods are for publishing. Not for updating BASDBTEST

OK, I was just looking to see if there was another way I should be updating the Test BSV.
I develop on my local machine like you do. So when I need to update the BSV on the EC2 Instance I need to replace that BSV. Currently we are just using Test I am not publishing any thing yet. Right now I just Import the BSV and leaving the configurator in Test mode.

If I needed to publish the BSV for the Test environment so I didn't have to leave it in test mode, then we would need a separate version of AWareIM for Test and Production so they could both be published.

I do most of my development work on my laptop, with local data here. (on a mac) I have a folder that is configured to connect to my server, so whenever I want to update the version, instead of RDPing the bsv to the server, I just connect to the configurator from my lappy and run the import where I can point to my local copy of the bsv. Easy, Fast.

But, what do I know??
