How to protect field on the form by condition

Hi Group,

Just wondering how I can put condition to the field on the form so user is only allowed to click on the field or only allow to modify if the condition allow. I just simply want to control the cursor or click on the field with condition.

Hi Sabbi,

You should use a rule that includes PROTECT with your conditions.

And you can make it "Dynamic" so that changes made during data entry can set the protection dynamically based on selections of other attributes on the form.

Ok, I tried using below:

Condition1: LoggedInEmployee.Owner='No'
Action1: PROTECT DailyPaperWorkSale.ps_StoreName FROM ALL

before the above Action, I am also initializing the field with another rule and it picks default value correctly.

The protection rule also work and protecting the field but when I save the record, it gives below error:

"Value of ps_StoreName must be provided"

Any idea what could be wrong. I am new to AwareIM and learning the basics.

Sounds to me like you have ps_StoreName as a required field. In order for your scheme to work, you should remove that and use a rule to require it based on condition.

Change it to PROTECT FROM ALL EXCEPT SYSTEM

Infact, I needed the required check box ON, but I managed it as you mentioned and it did worked. But even though the required checkbox ON, it should not create issue because I am initializing the ps_StoreName with the rule and it is a dropdown field.
Anyway, it worked as intended so I should go forward.

Hi Mark,

Something is still wrong. I can see the default value in the dropdown field which is protected for changing as per the condition. But when I save the record, the default value does not store in the database.
I tried all combination in the rules advanced tab but no luck.
