So I notice that even on small 1 & 2 byte fields, AIM selects VARCHAR.
I'm not worried about name/address type fields, where VARCHAR is an obvious choice.
But 1,2, 8-byte fields where I'm using all characters and its clearly fixed length, I think I should be changing this on the backend to CHAR.
Lets say I manually alter table a column to be CHAR instead of VARCHAR, I've noticed that if I rename a field in AIM, as it renames that column It DOES NOT change it back to VARCHAR. Thats good. But I'm wondering what might happen one day that will make AIM recreate that table and lose all my manual changes?
What do you other SQL SERVER users do?
