This is a bug/'irregularity'.
The immediate work-around is to not close the form, just collapse the row.
Also, if you're looking at displaying an Instance in a form in an expanded Query row, then you should also be aware that if an Instance is deleted via a form in an expanded query row, the screen will also go blank.
The work-around for this is to instead have a 'Staus' Attribute which gets changed to 'Deleted' and have the Query Criteria such that only Instances whose Status is not 'Deleted' are displayed, and auto refresh the Query when the process which changes the Status is run.
