EXECUTE PROGRAM action with parameters doesn't work.

Hi Guys;

I need to use EXECUTE PROGRAM to execute an EXE which this EXE takes different parameters for different actions. When parameters are applied, EXECUTE PROGRAM will not do anything.

I can run the same EXEC with parameters at command line and works.
I can put the EXEC with parameters in a batch file and call the batch file from EXECUTE PROGRAM and works.
But not if I put the parameters along with EXE it won't work.

I need to be able at runtime to change these parameters, according to the conditions, so the batch file won't work.

This is how I call the program:

EXECUTE PROGRAM 'exiftool -filename -gpslatitude -gpslongitude -T -n C:\at > C:\at\out.txt'

This should write "Out.txt" to folder "C:\at", but it doesn't. If related to rights, how do I resolve this?

UPDATE: It doesn't seem to be related to right, because I can use ImageMagic to create an image in the same directory and it works.
So somehow, AwarIM has a problem with this:
exiftool -filename -gpslatitude -gpslongitude -T -n C:\at > C:\at\out.txt

Has anyone resolved this?

C:\at\out.txt
is not actually a parameter to your program. I am guessing that is the root of your problem.

Try passing the parameters to a batch file that would run your EXE.

the ">" is a parameter for that software to create a file, like this:
exiftool -b -ThumbnailImage C:\at\a.jpg > C:\at\b.jpg
It creates a thumbnail and creates a b.jpg

Without the ">", nothing gets output. That is the parameter to exiftool program to "Output".

I did try to use batch, BUT at run time I need to provide many different parameters to that software, which makes it much harder to use the 9 parameters restriction with batch file. I can get it to work with batch but for simple cases.

Bob, the '> C:\at\out.txt' is inside of a single quote along with the rest of the command. Why should that be the root of my problem?

I thought the ">" was a pipe (is that the correct term?) that took the output from exiftool and wrote it to a file. If that was true, then it was not a parameter to the exiftool program but Aware would try to pass it as a parameter, thus a problem. But if it actually is a parameter for the program, then I am wrong (again) and that is not your problem.

Yes, the author had select that letter ">" as of of the parameters, meaning create a file and then you also pass the file name right after. Like in the following samples the ">" is part of the whole parameter set to give to the program.
Somehow, Aware doesn't like it.
I'm not truly sure if the showstopper is ">".

exiftool -filename -gpslatitude -gpslongitude -T -n C:\at > C:\at\out.txt
exiftool -filename C:\at\a.jpg > C:\at\out.txt
exiftool -b -ThumbnailImage C:\at\a.jpg > C:\at\b.jpg

Well, I can confirm that AwareIM does not like ">" letter as part of the parameter. Other commands that don't use ">" works.

Thanks, I tried that. It works in command line or batch file but not in Aware. I get error:
"File for data import exiftool -filename C:\at\a.jpg > C:\at\out.txt is not found"

here's another one , try and store the > in the object and then source it in you command line by replacing > in the command line with <<object.xxx>>

Yes, I did it in System settings to hold the whole comand line and even just ">" that and tried. and nothing happened. Basically, at runtime when Aware's parser sees the ">" it freaks out. 😃
I tried another command which does not use ">" and works. The only problem with that comman is that the file generated is not a CVS file that I need.

The characters around the < are on the key to the left of the 1 key (at least on my keyboard)

No, unfortunately nothing happens even with your suggestion. It's a problem in Aware and ">" letter.

Thats at the end of the command line redirecting Standard Output to a file.

If you didn't put anything after (and including) the ">", then the result would be displayed in the OS output window after exiftool runs.

SOOOOO, use the -o option to specify your output file. see the manual.

the -o option is for creating an image file and not metadat file. My file to be created is not an image file but is going to be the metdata of the image with special data extracted into a CSV format.

The other option is to use -w tag but this option doesn't create CSV file format. I've already read the manual and discussed this with Phil.
