[solved] FIND inside Process Failing

I'm running a process from a rule attached to my BO.
The rule runs, but my FIND fails with this :

2016-11-29 08:15:37,606 RULE_EVALUATION ButtonProcTest#admin          -3 Action FIND lookups WHERE lookups.telnum='100' is not allowed during initialisation.

The BO containing the rule is called MyBO. The lookups BO definitely contains an entry that would match. I'm doing this because I want to set one of the fields on the MyBO form to one of the attributes returned in the FIND.

Now this gets run whilst I am creating a new MyBO instance. The new instance has not yet been saved.

Why can't I run a FIND in the process?

An alternative would be to have a process that you call to create a new instance of MyBO:

FIND lookups WHERE lookups.telnum='100'
ENTER NEW MyBO with MyBO.Attribute1=lookups.Attribute1,MyBO.Attribute2=lookups.Attribute2

This is part of the data entry form for a new MyBO. Some data is entered, a button is clicked, this process is run, and another field on the form is populated with the result of the search.

So I'm already part way through the process. The button click/lookup is also optional, so I can't assume that it will be required in advance.

The only reference I can find to initialisation is for rules attached to the BO. This is a process, albeit called from a rule attached to the BO.

My head is spinning a bit today ...

Happens when I edit a BO too, not just on creation of a new one - so I really don't get this not allowed during initialisation message at all?

Do you have the rule flagged as not permitted during initialization?

The rule defined in the BO that calls the Proc is marked as "Use rule during initialisation" (I set that myself).
The rule that is part of the Proc doesn't have an Advanced tab for me to set anything like that.
