Running AwareIM on a hi-res monitor

kklosson

I have some new computer gear and my monitors are set to 3840 x2160. AwareIM presents pretty small at this res. Is there anything to make the presentation larger short of adjusting the resolution every time I run it? If not, does anyone know of a batch configuration to do it seamlessly?

I have the same issue as well. And haven't found anything that works seamlessly.
One of the items I requested for next version, was to be able to adjust the Editor/IDE's font size. We have this feature in Visual Studio and it's awesome. Or you can even change the whole Zooming size to any size, like the following.

I hope the next version will allow us to change resolution size in IDE.

kklosson

Well, it's actually a Java thing. I've tested a few apps that are just .jar files and they all behave the same. The other thing is that you can't just change the res on the fly - you need to log out/in for the Java application to behave. For now, I will just run one monitor at 1920/1080.

I'm using a 17" laptop with 1920 x 1200 resolution and the font size in AwareIM is painfully small. (Getting old!)
I hope that the font size will be adjustable after the migration to Eclipse IDE.

kklosson

Try to imagine 3840 x2160.

hah 17" laptop.

Try a 13" XPS with 3200 x 1800.

SUPPORT: Any easy resolution and fix to this problem?

kklosson

There is a post on the AwareIM LinkedIn group that AwareIM is moving to the Eclipse IDE. That will change it and I look forward to that day. Although I have no problem with the current IDE because it works and is pretty well-organized. The work-around for now is to decrease the resolution, then log out/in and run the configuration tool. Smallish pain in the A.

kklosson

Also this discovery. Set your resolution on the primary display to something that works for the AwareIM Configuration Tool, then log out/in, and open the config tool. From there, you can then reset your screen res to the highest and it seems that the config tool (or Java in general) will persist the correct screen size. I assume that if you open the config tool in a higher res, it will change and you have to repeat my steps.

Wonder if Aware Support can comment re: Can we expect newer versions to support higher rez screens? and a guesstimate when we might have it. Days? Weeks? Months? After The Donald's 2nd term? (only kidding... I think)

Eclipse IDE has full support for font size. So if you run high resolution which everything shows small, you raise the font size in editor, so you can see everything nice and large, while it's running in hi res.

But the question is, is support going to give us access to "Preference" settings, where we can set lots of IDE options???

aware_support

Aware IM itself doesn't have any code to tackle resolutions - it's all up to Java. The new version will be based on Eclipse platform which uses a lot of native stuff on each platform, so hopefully it will work well. However, we haven't tested how it behaves on this high-res monitors yet.

The new version is likely to be released within 6 months. It's a massive massive job.

But we have the most capable team behind it. 😃 😃

This will version bring other features than upgrading the Configuration Tool? Do you have a complete list of these features/roadmap?

Thank you

The following will definitely be available:

UI approach will be different to allow better productivity for developers - easier access to elements, ability to go anywhere in the system while entering a rule to check what's available, reduce the number of nested dialogs etc
More professional looking UI, slicker dialogs
"Live" preview of forms queries and visual perspectives

The following is likely to be available, but the details are not clear at this stage:

Improved Form Designer
Improvements to testing the application
Report Designer (this will either be re-written or replaced with the integration with Jasper Reports)

Thank you for the reply.

Jasper Reports ->even better (cool)...

Whichever produces the best result and does not create any restraint or constraint on the "END USER". The ultimate goal for us, is to provide professional reports that they can use easily.

Most of the NEW reporting system, generate pure HTML5 that shows as a webpage rather than using PDF as the ONLY means of generating a report. Although PDF should be an option for users to archive a report.
A Responsive HTML can easily be viewed on Mobile as well. This way, user can view the report, just like they're viewing the app pages.

These would be the criteria to whether re-write the designer or integrate Jasper to meet the best result.
Thanks!

Hope that helps!

@support:

Just to clarify....
PDF reports are crucial and there must be a way for configurators to set up perfectly formatted reports for paper output with complex nesting/breaking etc, like is possible with Jasper.
