For those who wish to contribute to the New (Tab) Features

BLOMASKY

As most of you know, to get the new tab features in the new build, it cost $1,000 USD. I paid for that. If you do find these features useful and wish to help pay for them, my paypal is bruce@bruceL.com

I plan to pay at least $300 for this. So if you do contribute, please send me an email telling me that, and also, in the email, please let me know if you want it to be anonymous. Because, in full transparency (not like the transparency surrounding the US elections...), I will post the remaining balance and if you did not ask to be anonymous, your name.

This way, if it does get down to $300, people will know to not contribute any more.

Thank you Mark. Now $800 balance

We would appreciate if those who promised to contribute to this feature and didn't pay yet(and there were quite a few) pay Bruce asap. Otherwise, he will end up paying for a bunch of features some of which are not even relevant to him and are only relevant to those who promised to contribute!

It's only fair.

Thank you.

Hang on a minute..
The only IP common/shared between Bruce's requirement and my proposed list of 7 enhancements to comprehensively control the Tab aspect of the UX, was knowing which tab is in focus (item 2. on my list from memory). The other 6 items were my IP.
None of us who had already cumulatively pledged $600 or $650 (without Bruce having pledged anything at that stage) asked Bruce to go off and commission (without informing us) the list of enhancements (we had pledged towards) directly without any consultation with other contributors.
None of us had any idea what was going on until Bruce's post after some days. We were all in the dark.
It was not a collaborative process.

People have to work. The working week is busy.
People need time to assess what was delivered against the list of enhancements they pledged their money towards, and then weigh any shortfall against any additional enhancements which were delivered (and whether such enhancements have any value to them), and determine what they feel is fair.
Obviously this requires installing the new build and pissing around for a while, which cannot necessarily be done in the hussle of the working week.
Posts like yours below can be interpreted/received by some people in a way that makes them feel pressured/obliged to contribute fully towards something which is different to what they pledged towards.
AND, that will only have the effect of ensuring that people DO NOT take a chance in future and pledge upfront towards future user sponsored enhancements.
Give it time. I'm sure people will do what they feel is fair.
And remember, $100 to you is easier to come by than for someone not in a Western country, for whom $100 is like $500 to you.

you would've pay upfront if mark didn't pay for us.
so we have the privilege of not paying until the version was released
also support provided the full list of the new features and i am sure he will correct any issue you may see with them.
it doesn't matter who suggested the list, i liked the features.

pureist

Yes, but support rectifying any issues is not the point. (And I think you mean Bruce paying, not Mark)
The point is that people pledged to contribute to a specific list of features, but the process of finalizing the ultimate definitive list, obtaining consensus agreement among all contributors, and then commissioning the work, did not run its full/ordinary course.
And therefore, people need a bit of time to assess what they got versus what they expected (ie. what they were pledging to contribute towards). And it has only been a few days.

1st, and this might be the ONLY time I will ever disagree with AwareSupport, Do not FEEL any pressure to pay for this feature. I needed some of the functionality that I asked for and even no more contributions are made, I will be a happy camper. So please, PRETTY PLEASE! lets end the discussion about who SHOULD feel an obligation to contribute.

However, so far, I have received $505

Thank you ALL!
I am glad this is working out so well (and it was just released < 1 week ago. I am sure many people have not had the time to even investigate and play with the new features.)

At early blush, this seems like a vehicle where functionality that is important to many of us can be pushed up the priority list. I am going to investigate that in a new thread.

p.s. build 2236 , released this morning (at least morning for me!) fixed a bug with the process running when a tab gets focus. so do test with that one.

6 items on the pureist's list above will be included.

You are right: "It was not a collaborative process.". Aware support already answered what the can (and can't do) I needed the functionality and didn't see any reason to delay. But this is a win-win for you. There is NO commitment for anyone else to contribute. If you don't feel the new functionality is worth it, then NO problems. NO pressure. NO Hurry.

Its the weekend. Enjoy!

I have not really even had time to totally understand what the the added features are supposed to do and definitely have not had time to work out how to implement.

My view was if there are a number of people wanting the same thing, then eventually I am going to come up against the same issue and want it to work. So, for me, I have
no problem pitching in a few bucks worth of blind faith for the betterment of the product and to support other developers. Called it my CSR progrma. 😉

BLOMASKY

I just got another 200 bucks (I do not recognize the name, perhaps will be an email soonish.). So I have received $700 bucks. I planned to pay at least $300, so I have to say I am VERY impressed with the support received.

This has worked so very well, I hope we can find other features that multiple people feel worth paying for to continue to improve (and improve) Aware.

You guys rock!

You to Bruce....

Actually a place for that....

Yes, I am aware of that Post, Bruce. But I am also aware of subsequent posts.
And in actual fact, ultimately, not all 6 were included (7 if you include tabs being rectified to work properly, ie. remembering their scroll position when they are returned to, rather than always resetting to the top).
Which is why I wrote:
"People need time to assess what was actually delivered against the list of enhancements they pledged their money towards, and then weigh any shortfall against any additional enhancements which were delivered (and whether such enhancements have any value to them), and determine what they feel is fair."
It is a shame more people don't contribute. If they did then most enhancements could probably cost $20 per person.
It would be great if this ends up being over subscribed and you need to rebate/refund contributors on a pro-rated basis.

btw, the last $200 was from Codrin. Sorry I didn't mention your name earlier.

Thank you and thanks to all others who helped pay for this feature.

Have a great rest of your weekend boys and girls..
