Calling IP Address Of API Consumer

I have an AwareIM REST API consisting of a simple process to insert data into a BO. I wish to restrict access to this API based on IP address for authentication) and username/password for authorisation.

From reading on here it looks like I must authenticate the API consumer myself in the called process (or some subordinate) as there is no login process per se for an API.

My question is - how can I get the IP address of someone consuming my REST API? As I say above, the user doesn't log in like a web browser would so it looks like i can't use the built in fields associated with the logged in user.

Sorry to bump - but I still can't work out how to get the IP of a "guest" (which I assume is what a non-logged in user is treated as). Doesn't seem to be a function or anything for it.

Any help appreciated.

You have to write some code for this. The idea is that you have to handle the initial request yourself in your own code and then if the request is successfully authenticated redirect it to Aware IM that will handle the rest. So your users will use a different URL for the REST call to get to your code first, which will then redirect it to the Aware IM URL.

This code can be written as a Java servlet and integrated into Aware IM's Tomcat. Or it can be entirely separate from Aware IM and use whatever technology you feel comfortable with. There is plenty of information available on how to write Java servlets for Tomcat - there is nothing Aware IM specific there (except maybe you would like to access the Aware IM database directly in your code)

That's actually what I've done for now (put a user API server in PHP in the way). Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a trick.
