Percentages - attribute formatting

I was wondering if i could pick your brains for abit.

Ill start off explaining my situation, since upgrading to version 7 from version 6 i have had issues with how to handle percentages.

How percentages worked in version 6 ( how i had it all setup )

So i have a business object "Application" with an attribute "Discount" which was format #.00%

If they wanted the discount to be 3.45% they would enter in 3.45 and would display as 3.45%

We also have calculations in the system that use these percentages so the calculations are based on the field being 3.45

Since upgrading to version 7 i found that i could not save any business objects that had a percentage value and would receive this error "ApplicationDiscount:Attribute has invalid format"

So there is an error with the format, i found that using kendo's documentation i updated the format to value "p" using this documentation http://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/framework/globalization/numberformatting

Since changing the format to "p" i can now save my business objects but whats happening now is the value Application.discount original value = 3.45 which now displays as 345.00%

so looking as this logic i changed the value from 3.45 to 0.0345 thinking it should now display as 3.45% but it displays as 3.00% so looks like its rounding these numbers.

So to sum up i am quite stumped on how i should approach this.

using #.00% format reports back an error

changing to the new formatting "p" does not accept decimal point percentages and automatically rounds the number up/down

"p" accepts 0.1 as 10% and accepts the value 10 as 1000%

All values in my system are using the 10=10% logic

If i was to change to the new"p" i will have to change all rules and process that handle the calculations

I would rather not do that, is there a way i can handle percentages keeping the logic of 10=10% ?

Will also need to be able to enter percentages with decimal point value so for example 1.45%

I eventually gave up on all my number formatting in V7.00 and set the number format to either an integer or one with decimals . The currency or % indicator then gets added separately

maybe this will help you, I got this reply from support when i was pulling my hair out and on my 10th cup of coffee :

Do not use $ as part of the formatting expression. Use it in front instead:

$<<Object.Attribute>>

If the format uses "," use @ as delimiter:

$<<Object.Attribute@###,##.##>>

Yes I have the exact same problem since upgrading to 7. I followed the help file which says the following:
"Any characters other than these special characters can appear in the prefix or the suffix. A single quote can be used to escape a special character, if you need to use one of these symbols in a prefix or a suffix. "

This does display it correctly but when you save you get the same problem: "Attribute has invalid format"

Is this a bug or is there a different way to do this?

While this might be change in your logic (everywhere you are using the discount pct you will have to divide by 100)

BUT, just have it as a number with 2 decimal places. When displaying it, you can append a "%"
so then you will enter 3.45 when entering the pct.

Bruce is right - do not include % in the format. Display it separately - next to the field or as part of the label.

The problem with "p" format I think was fixed in one of the latest builds, but not sure 100%

Hey guys,

thank you for the information. I am currently doing it this way but then it creates another problem.

When using a attribute description to the left of an attribute it movesthe description to a new line when you are using the 'percentage of column' option. If you don't use this option then you have to size all the columns and they do not anchor themselves in the form which means the form is less responsive.

I know this is a different issue but it seems to be a current limitation. Can anyone confirm this?
