Q: Print Process and Server side pop-up

Hi,

I searched the forum but could not find anyone with this issue.

We have a process which PRINTS a DOCUMENT.

If we login to AIM in test mode (not on the server) and start the process nothing happens. At the time we start the process the Server side has a printer dialog ?

Has anyone every seen this?

Hi,

Forgot to mention;

The document is of type HTML (so its an HTML report) so we need to be able to print this.

PRINT (inside a process should just push to the client side printer)

So confused why the server has a popup asking to save the file every time.

the pop-up (dialog is asking to save a file)on the server asks to save "Java Printing.pdf"

Digging around we found this. But is this true or can someone point us in the direction to print an HTML Document.

Usecase: Print an HTML Document

Is this what needs to be done to be able to do this?

1) We have to EXPORT HTML to a folder
2) Run a batch processes to convert it to PDF
3) Then re-attach that document to an Object
4) Then ask the user to reopen that Object and View to Print

(Temp Solution) until we can use PRINT in a process directly to a Printer

Create a Process

DISPLAY DOCUMENT {name_of_html_template} IN WINDOW

Then

Create a Menu Option called "Display Document" it will be in an browser window. Tell them to "right click" and select the printer locally.

I'm not sure I can help, but I hate to see you talking to just yourself. One way could be to use a Word document instead and include a startup macro to print. There could be problems with this because macro-enabled documents tend to be quarantined. But I would imagine that this is a dedicated audience so enabling macro-enabled documents could be an option?

Thanks for the reply,

Well in all honesty it was our stupidity which made us assume with functions like PRINT it would auto transform and pipeline something via RPC to our clients printers.

Moreover I think the workaround is actually better in some ways because it makes the end user responsible for output.

Once it shows up in the end users pop-up / browser window, is the client side managing it for printing and the helpdesk if the printer is having issues, not the software guys 🙂

Not that we like finger pointing but its a win win at this point.
