Can I have Popup Refresh itself with different Data?

I have a query where I select a record and a popup layout is displayed.

On this shiny new popup, there is a query and if the user selects a record in that query, I want to redisplay the popup with the data from the new record. It ALMOST seems to work, I see the popup close, the new data displayed but then the popup closes.

Does this make sense? Any suggestions?

To add onto this, I know we now have a "close tab" command, but I don't see an option to conditionally close a popup. Is there one?

You said 'Refresh' in the subject line, but then you wrote 'redisplay'.
Which is it?
..have the popup seamlessly refresh and Display the appropriate Layout containing the data for the selected record, OR, close the original popup and redisplay another with the selected item's data?
This is a bit confusing: 'I see the popup close, the new data displayed but then the popup closes.'
It reads like you mean that the first pop up closes, then a new popup opens displaying the data, but then closes?

Sorry I was confusing. I meant Re-display. I want the popup to close, and reopen with diff. data on the popup.
