Q: Cascade drop downs

Hi all,

I want to implement cascade drop-down in may forms, but without saving the form when I select a field (

I the bsv attached I have an example with CARS: brands&models.
I want to be able to add models based on which brand I select without saving the form when I select a brand.

How to reproduce in bsv attached.

Create a customer
From customer's form, "ADD new car"
From Cars form try to add a brand, then a model

The model is created with a process which looks like this:
If Cars.Brand IS UNDEFINED Then REPORT ERROR 'Select a brand first, then you can add a model'
ENTER NEW Model WITH Model.Brand=Cars.Brand
INSERT Model IN Cars.Model

Hi tom,

thx for replying on this.

In your example the customrs are selected from a list.

I try to add a reference from ENTER NEW, based on previous selected reference in other drop-down from same form.

This INSERT rule in your process is not needed.

Tom, you are half right.
The model is created, but the user has to re-open the dropdown and select the created model car. My users are "special" and they are right, the dropdown should be populated.

the "INSERT" that was for...to populate the dropdown.

Hi,
I tested again and I have found something interesting (but not in good way) in strange way 🙁.

First: I use in other apps "INSERT ReferenceBO IN BO.RefernceBO" and works ok. It's true that only tried it in Edit mode and now it's first time when I try it in "ENTER NEW".
This should work in this too, that's the normal way of on web app.

Ok, with this said and even this post was created in purpose to be able to use INSERT in "ENTER NEW" in proper way, I have discovered something else strange in Dropdown behaviour.
The best way I could example this is this video which is based on above attached .bsv file.

Suuport, please correct this behaviours...both.....:

Change the INSERT line to ...

Cars.Model = Model

Just a general note on this - cascading drop downs should be implemented using "Filter Query" in the presentation options of references represented as drop downs. I believe this should be documented in the How To Guide.

To expand a bit more ...

"INSERT ReferenceBO IN BO.RefernceBO"

This is the way to do for a 1:N relationship. But in your case ... Cars to Model is 1:1

Yes in from UserGuide that's te sense of INSERT, 1:N, but I use this in other places in EDIT mode and it works perfectly. I can INSERT a reference into a attribute.

The Cars.Model=Model does not work.
