can not use DISPLAY LAYOUT on Popup (or modal)

In good old version 6, this was not a problem. But since we went to V7, I can not have a process that has a DISPLAY LAYOUT run where the output is in a popup. This does create an issue with the way I want the user to interact with the system.

In more than one case, I need a popup to be displayed while letting the user see the underlying data on the current tab, but I am limited to a single panel in my popup and not a layout (i.e. a query or form).

Is there any chance that functionality might re-appear in future builds?

Am I the only one who finds this lacking?
