SOLVED Search bar query

I have a search bar that searches a group of objects. At the moment it searches only by name. I need it to search by TradingAs as well. My current query is FIND Customers WHERE Customers.Name CONTAINS ?Name OR Customers.TradingAs CONTAINS ?TradingAS

I've made sure that all of the objects in the group have the TradingAs attribute and that it's displayed in the table that it generates.

Any ideas why searching by Trading As isn't working?

You could create a new calculated field called Customers.FullDetails which will be: Customers.Fulldetails=Customers.Name+' '+Customers.TradingAs
...and have the search bar hooked at that field. It will then show results containing Name and TradingAs datas.

Cool, so this looks like it works. Had to save the object first before it pulled the details but I'll fiddle with the rules and see if I can't get it to check the others. There are a lot of required fields which have gone from required to unrequired back and forth a few times, meaning there are some clients that have blank required fields when you open them. This means I can't just batch update easily

Create a Process and launch it to update all your Customers :

FIND Customers WHERE Customers.FullDetails IS UNDEFINED
UPDATE Customers

Ok, so hopefully last question, I think I may've asked this before. Is there a way to skip a Customer that has a required field? I tried that process but it stops as soon as it hits one with an unfilled field.

You should deactivate the mandatory fields on Customer, launch the Process and once done activate again the required fields...

This can work as well may be :

FIND Customer WHERE Customer.FullDetails IS UNDEFINED
Customer.FullDetails='<<Customer.Name>> <<Customer.TradingAs>>'

When I have this kind of issues I use Navicat ( a mysql viewer programme) and use a standard MySql process to updates fields directly on the database.

Ok, so not properly solved yet. I ran that process and this happened (a small section of the full list)

Name Search Details Trading As
H Parker Physiotherapy Sing Your Name
Burnedale Sing Your Name Burnes Land
Children's World Sing Your Name
Gondwana Game Reserve Sing Your Name
Ace Contractors t/a Graceland Venues Sing Your Name

It made every Search Detail field into Sing Your Name, which is a client right down at the bottom of the list. For the process, do I need to make Company the input?

Where is the problem ? Your results are showing all TradingNames containing "Sing Your Name"
If you type a company name, like "Burnedale" it will show all containing that word

Oh sorry, the table didn't paste well. Only some have a TradingAs like Burnes Land. Its taken all of them, regardless of whether they had a TradingAs or not and made the SearchDetails "Sing Your Name" :/

use "in batches of 1" for your update process

Ah thanks so much! I've never looked at that in batches of thing before, never seemed useful! I think I need to print out that user guide...

actually, i don't think using "in batches of 1" is REALLY valid... its just needed to make it work. Doesn't make sense. I think its a bug.

I got bit by this about a month ago like you.
Wanted to make a new field which was the concatenate of 2 fields.
Its OBVIOUSLY looping through all the records, cause when its done, they all have the new field populated.
But why doesn't the simple assignment statement work correctly? ... without adding "in batches of 1"

Yeah, like I mentioned earlier, it creates that new value on every item but seems to pick a random object and assigns that value to every object. When I use the batches function, it works (although I'm going to test it two or seven more times to ensure nothing is blowing up)
