Error: Can not call during initialisation

I have an object with a rule: "If Quotes.LFMaxQty WAS CHANGED Then CreateTheTally"

Just for testing, I have it run a DISPLAY MESSAGE. I get the error "this is not allowed during initalisation". I am confused. The record has already been created, I am just editing it. In the advanced tab of the rule, I ticked "do not use rule during initialisation" but I still get the error.

(I really have to call a Stored Proc when a field is changed, but am testing with the display msg.)

What am I doing wrong?

OK, 1st, I took off the DISPLAY MESSAGE, cause you cant have user interaction... That was just my last testing trying to figure out what was wrong. I need to have a process run when a field on a form is changed. if I DONT tick "use in recalculation in form" then the process runs AFTER I click the save button. If I DO tick this, then I get the error I mentioned, "can not be called during initialisation"

So the question is, How can I have a process run when a field on a form is changed, prior to pressing the SAVE button? (or, if there is an option to SAVE the data after the field is changed, that would work also.)

Mark the rule as dynamic.

In the Advanced tab of the rule, check "Use rule in dynamic recalculation on forms"

Tom, if I do that, then I get the error about initialisation. If I don't then it only runs when I save the form.

I have not seen the initialization message before.

1) What happens when if you set "Attributes initialization on forms" to "Determine automatically" and check "Use rule in dynamic re-calculation on forms"?

2) What does the process do that is being called? Is it attempting to update the Quotes BO?

Got it working as long as I put the call to the stored proc in the RULE and not have the rule call a process. Not sure why I had to do that.
