I have a requirement I am currently investigating (how to do it) and haven't gotten it right yet. If anyone knows how to do this, please advice. Thanks in advance.
The scenario is this. I have a domain: myapp.com and an app Myapp. Users should be able to create their "own" subdomains which should display a public/guest page (per user). To clarify, if CompanyA sign up to the app, the AwareIM app programmatically DOES SOMETHING which enables endusers to reach CompanyA's public/guest page on myapp.com/companya . The public/guest page is a Guest perspective (and a specific process etc for that company is executed) if that wasn't clear.
What I am trying to figure out is the DOES SOMETHING above. The solution should:
- Work for multiple companies i.e each tenant should be able to get a subdomain and guest VP page.
- It should be possible to add subdomains and do all of the changes involved with adding a new subdomain programmatically.
- The domain/subdomain should be displayed all the time i.e myapp.com/companya should be displayed in the browser adress field all the time. Related, an iframe DOES NOT work because of the IE/Safari session timeout problem. This domain/subdomain "fix" has to be done via Tomcat or something else on the server. It should also not require a Tomcat restart i.e a new domain should be allowed to be added dynamically.
- The solution should preferrably be within Tomcat and on the actual server (i.e avoId having to API a domain provider, change DNS etc.).
Anyone knows how to do this snd/or can share some thoughts? Thanks
PS: If anyone has used a similar solution and thinking primarily about using the Guest VP (frontfacing) with volume / a lot of traffic. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on reliability, uptime, load and server performance, do's and dont's etc..
