V7 Responsive Grid Nested Layouts

Some questions

1) Seems like I can only control the width of a panel via the width factor which is 1 - 12. On a desktop @ 1920 rez. then each widthfactor is over 150 px. This seems very coarse. What am I doing wrong?

2). What controls whether a panel is displayed to the right or below the current one? Again, I thought it was the width factor, but that does not seem to always work.

Yes, the only control is the width factor. You need to understand how this works. Aware IM mimics the behaviour of the Bootstrap grid system. In the absence of the documentation for version 7.0 beta please read the tutorial on Bootstrap grid, for example here:

There are many others as well.

I understand the plus in designing a system for diff. screens. but assuming I am building an intranet where I know and can specify the screen size. Is there ANY reason to use responsive vs. either Columns or Table? Seems like both of those offer me more grainularity.

Yes, of course you can use Column and other layouts if you don't care about responsiveness.

Just sending some kudos to Awaresoft 🙂. I have played around with v7 this past week and now we are really talking and the new feature set with responmsiveness, the new VP configuration options and one of the biggies, the great new mobile features are REALLY great (moving to Kendo was a brilliant move). This is a gamechanger and I look forward to the official release.

PS: I will sit the next week or so and go over stuff and send comments/feedback on the beta version.

I am waiting for you to do your magic (pun intended) and share with the rest of us mer mortals how we can use the "Advanced" options in queries and forms to modify the look and feel of the Kendo controls....

Well, you will need to wait for the official release for the proper documentation of the Advanced feature, but as a head-up:

For the initialization script you have the following objects available:
markup
widgets

The first contains the HTML markup produced by Aware IM for a particular query, form or VP (depending on where the script is used). You can modify this HTML using jQuery if need be.

The second one is the one where you can control configuration options of the Kendo UI widgets. The object represents an array of ALL Kendo widgets created for a particular query, form or VP. Usually the main widget, such as grid widget for the query is the first in this list. Each member of the list has the following structure:

type (type of the widget)
id (id of the element in the markup)
config (Kendo UI configuration).

So if you want to change Kendo UI configuration you would do something like this:

widgets[0].config.editMode = "inline";

This changes the "editMode" configuration option of the grid for a query.

Is there a complete reference for these options, and can you give a little more information on where these options are set?

There is no complete reference yet. It's only a beta version, not the final release yet.
