How to select a related record when there could be 10,000

I have an Inventory BO with about 10,000 items. I also have an OrderLine BO with a peer single relationship to Inventory.

I have a most lovely query for the Inventory with filters, etc. and would like to use that when I am adding a new OrderLine.

Question is, how can I do that? (It would be nice if one of the choices in "Display As" was query)

Bruce, If I understand you correctly, in your LineItem, you have a drop down for Inventory Item to choose from and you want to apply your filter to this inventory item drop down? If yes,
Then, in your Line Item you should put the reference to the inventory item on the form and then you can create query as shown in # 2 in the picture. Make sure in # 1 you have it as Drop Down.

I probably didn't explain it well enough. I dont think the dropdown will work, since I have to let the end user filter the items every time they enter a new record. So, I would need a form or a query with filters so when the user has to pick an item, either the form is displayed, they fill in some optional parameters, then a query is run against that (this might be the easiest way, think I know how to do that), or, if I had my druthers, I would have a query open, with filters on the top, let the user enter any filter data they want, then finally select the item from that query (table).

Does this make sense? Or shall I go back to re-reading the user guide? (This time with LESS tequila!)

So is this the total scope of what you'd like to do, or is there another query before this?

Yes, I want to use a query that I built do select the desired record. When I run it from the VP, it starts fast, shows the 1st page (of 100's) and has filters on the top. Once I enter my filter criteria, I am down to about 50 records, which I should then be able to pick from.

Is that doable? Does this make sense?
