Database Profiles

I am using my netbook in the office where I just set up SQL Server as my database server, and at home/mobile where I would like to use Derby.

In the Configuration Manager- Settings - Database, there's only room for one configuration.

I think that this is a use case where it would be nice to have something like "Database Profiles", which could be like Work, Home, Client1, Client1b, etc.

Make sense to anyone?

I don't speak for Support, but Aware's foundation isn't setup that way because:
a) All the programs/configurations you do, get stored in the database attached to that installation.
b) Aware's registration and internal tracking system, uses the same database.

So for you to switch back and forth, that means Aware has to juggle all that data between the two and also remember, which is the latest one. That is recipe for errors.

I suggest use Aware as it is designed (which is a brilliant design) and make the best of it.

If you want to develop in various places here are the options....

On a laptop wherever you want to be. You can have multiple databases but only one native. The others will be considered External
On a server and RDP into it but only if you are online. You can have multiple databases but only one native. The others will be considered External.
Two separate installations in two separate places a export and import the bsv whenever you move (99%) data compatible between Derby and MS-SQL

Not your scenario, but here is how I develop:

1) I develop on my laptop using Config tool and Derby database.
2) Export the BSV to my local hard drive
3) On our public facing server that has MySql database, I select Standard | Business Space Management | Publish Version

The updated BSV that was developed on my laptop using Derby is then active on server with MySql .. quite easy and amazing to me!

Yes Ken. Of course. Aware does not generally care which DB you use.

In fact I develop on a laptop with MS-SQL for deployment across 3 servers...1 X MS-SQL and 2 X MySQL

On caveat...... There is the very odd occasion where I have a quite complex Process developed on my laptop in MS-SQL and MySQL chokes on it as
it cannot interpret it. Rare, but worth keeping in mind. That is why I said 99%

OK, Lessons learned...It was interesting to see the structures of the tables in SSMS, though.

Certain projects seem to be broken - and they seem to be the ones worked on against multiple databases. Some of the demo apps which were not modified against two databases seem OK.

Should deleting those projects be enough to let me resume and stick with Derby until deployment? They only have about 5 objects and wouldn't take long to re-create. Or should I be looking to just reset the BASDB?

If you haven't done anything "real" yet, just uninstall Aware IM and
Reinstall it.

I had a minor issue during reinstall. It seems that the JDK subdirectory isn't removed by the uninstaller.
