V7 & external REST API's

Will V7 support out of the box integration with external REST API's?

I assumed this already existed in V6, but after reading through every post with the keyword "REST" .. it looks like I shouldn't have made that assumption.

And I don't see it on the V7 feature list.

I doubt that has changed in V7.

Hi John,

Aware IM can natively and easily expose a REST service but not consume one.

However, as I understand, writing a java plugin to connect to a REST API is no big deal.

We had one built for accessing Stripe payments (am pretty sure that was REST but would have to check)

You forgot a very important word here: "Proprietary". Another words, "Aware IM can natively and easily expose a Proprietary REST service"

Aware does NOT expose/provide Industry Standard Format REST Service, like any other language does, that can easily become consumed by others. It's a Proprietary format.

There is NO industry standard REST API. (unlike SOAP). That is why Aware IM cannot consume REST out-of-the-box - every REST service is different and requires a plugin, which as eagles999 points out, is relatively easy to implement.

I was referring to "Exposing" services Based on Industry Standard REST API that other languages and platforms offer. I had sent the Aware docs to several companies to be able to "Consume" Aware's services, and they all replied that Aware's API to consume, is Proprietary.

Rather than creating one off plugins ... how about creating a generic plugin that allows one to map Aware BO's to JSON exposed via REST?

Appery.io and other platforms are doing this. See below.

It appears many (including Telerik) are implementing oData as a standard protocol for REST communication.

Not sure what else can be done but simplifying/automating REST (in/out) in some way or documenting + providing more examples would be nice. Hope this can be added in the future.

No detail docs or samples, makes it hard to use. This document should also be in such a way for third parties who plan to "consume" our Aware services. Right now, it's a "Black Box". 🙁

This has been sitting for a couple of months, and v7 released in the interim. I don't see REST or api call in the Programmers Reference. I have an application where I need to call an address verification service, so need to check the status on this- and/or for examples of the Java plugin that's required.

+1 for a better (generic) way of exposing and consuming restful APIs in Aware.

I have built aware plugins but it isn't ideal. I have used Appery, it's neat and even I could do it, I'm sure aware could copy format but do it even better. Have since started to use AWS API gateway and Lambda functions as a work around, but would really much prefer to keep it all in aware.

Based on our experience, soap isn't much of an option these days, everyone is all json and restful.

Was this issue brought up at the conference and get a final resolution on it?
Other software companies are also building a generic REST system that takes parameters (like Appery) and allow their developers to pass the required parameters to establish REST interface. SOAP is over a decade old now, and most companies have switched to REST system.
Not having REST support out of the box in Aware, it will hurt it's potential sales and also hurt it's current developers.
