Process Executing...

Hello,
Is there a way to change the process executing... message to something else...
There is a process that take a while run and the user sometimes closes his browser window before this job is done thinking it is locked up or is frozen.
Or is there another solution that can be used to let the user know the process is still running?

Is it a process the user needs to wait to finish?

If not, you can turn on a flag to have the process run in the background, then show a message when the process is complete.

Yes, its a process they need to wait to finish.
When it is finished then it will display the query with the updated view.
When it runs in the background what happens to their browser window view?
Can they go someplace else with in the application?

I have used DISPLAY MESSAGE ASYNCH 'Some Data' to show some data from the process.

Will Display Message ASNYCH 'Some Data' repeat each time the process loops through that rule?
I was using it in another process to show that an email was sent, but it only shows it on the first email sent not the 2nd email sent.

I haven't been able to get it work correctly. At one point I did see two sets of data showed up (not consecutive records) but couldn't get to work right. I thought I was doing it wrong or putting it in wrong location. So I suggested to you in case you may get it right. 🙂

OK, I will look at it and see if I can get it to display more than once.

One other option would be to have the process update info in LoggedInRegularUser (LIRU) and have a form that shows the selected attributes of LIRU on the screen while the process runs in the background. Using AutoRefresh, you could update the LIRU form every X seconds while the process is running.

if you don't want them to go anywhere else in the application while the process is running, you could have a VP displayed that limits the menu options of the user while also showing the status in the LIRU form.

So, if I were to display a form for the LIRU when would I call that form and once called how or where would I call the other processes to complete the entire process?

Would I call the form to display first, then call the actual process that does everything from the form?

Hard to know without knowing more about your work flow.

You could have a VP with the only menu options being the processes that need to be run. The LIRU form can be run in a VP panel with a process using a VIEW action. I often use forms that have no buttons (not even a save button).

When adding DISPLAY MESSAGE ASYNCH 'Some message or data'
it will display the message but then the Executing... window disappears so then it looks like nothing is happening!
I removed the DISPLAY MESSAGE ASYNCH 'Some message or data' and put it back the way it was so just the executing will display.

Tom, I like your idea of displaying something, I don't have a lot of time to figure this out so I will have to come back to it at some point.

This would provide actual info and not make the user question "is that really working" or is it stuck and back arrow etc...
