reuse a query

Hi,

I have a standard query, i.e. Personnel List for quick reference to the user.

However, on some of my forms, I want to use the same Personnel List BUT I need to pass a parameter to it to filter out the result as I don't want to display all the Personnel data.

E.g.
Manager uses the application, click on the link and it shows ALL the personnel
User uses the application, click on the link and IT WILL ONLY SHOW his/her department list.

Is this possible in AwareIM? I don't want to keep creating queries. This is possible if I use Stored Procedure BUT I am trying not to use it as Aware's implementation of a Stored Procedure is not that good.

Cris, can you be more clear?
First you say "manager", then you say "user", then you say "department list".
Secondly you say "application", which is unclear. Do you mean a specific form?

Define it more clearly, and I may have the answer for you.

One way to do it is to modify the SQL statement using the SQL form tab of the query. By modifying SQL statements you can make your queries very powerful and flexible. In this instance I assume you have an attribute to designate a manager. So you could use something like:

FIND Personnel where (LoggedInSystemUser.Manager = 'Yes' and Personnel.ID>0) or (LoggedInSystemUser.Manager<>'Yes' and Personnel.Dept = LoggedInSystemUser.Dept)

I've used FIND's like Rod's example and I've also used conditional READ PROTECT rules on the BO involved.

I am using a process to call the query and I want the parameter to be pass-through seemlessly.

Sorry for the confusion.

You have 2 users with different levels of access. One is a manager, the other is just a regular user.

When the manager clicks on a link, it will display ALL the personnel list (i.e all records on the sql table)
When the regular user clicks on a link, it will display ONLY the personnel that has the same department as he/she is on. (i.e. a where clause will be added)
