Pause when refreshing

Hi,

I have a questionnaire form with about 20+ separators. Each separator has an visible / not-visible expression on them.

The user has to answer each question one at a time and are only allowed to proceed to the next question if they answer it correctly.

Issue I am having when I use this technique; and has been reported to us by the users;

When the user clicks on an awareapp.startprocessfromform link, the process gets executed but the form doesn't refresh. The solution is to place that process in the Form Auto-refresh setting section.

All the process is doing is; check that the answers are correct and set the section1.visible="No" and section2.visible="Yes"

Which then produces this pause of about 2-3 seconds before the form is displayed with the proper section visible. This pause is enough for the user to think that its not doing anything or click somewhere else on the form.

Any ideas on how I could speed it up?

Cris, my first question is, if you reduce from 20 separators to 2, do you get the same pause delay? If yes, then it's not the amount HTML that need to get created. If not, as you increase the# of Separators, does the delay get longer? If yes, then it's the amount of HTML that needs to be regenerated.

Second question: Does this behavior also happen on your development machine or only on deployment?

Hi Ben,

Regardless of the number of separators it has a pause.

The pause is due to the Form Auto-refresh setting and having to re-create the entire FORM but the expressions being evaluated. BUT if you don't add the process that evaluates the condition what section to display on the AUTO-REFRESH setting, your form will always show the first section only.

My process before :

ShowSection2 -
MyForm.ShowSection1='No'
MyForm.ShowSection2 = 'Yes'

CHANGED TO :

ShowSection2 -
VIEW MyForm USING Section2

This made it almost instantaneous BUT a worry to maintain 🙁 🙁

The solution I found at the moment which is acceptable is instead of using separators, is to do it on separate FORMS.

I am updating our test hosting today and see what's it like in the 'outside'. My development machine is slow too.

Cris, the reason I engaged into this thread, was that, I ran into similar situation and I ended up using sections (tabs) which only shows one at the time and I got great results. Putting everything into one section with lots of separators, will gets too bulky.
You can stay with one form but multiple sections.

No, each question will be in a section, and only one section will be seen by user. Instead of using separators to divide them, use section and you see one form that after each question the next one appears on the form. I've done it and works great.
