SAAS-Base Foundation Development Package

We are finalizing (doing all the documentation which is always the hard work end) a product for Aware IM developers called SAAS-Base.

What is it?
SAAS-Base is a complete SaaS multi tenant application foundation for developers wanting to get their app up and running quickly without having to wade through all
the normal things you need to do when developing this kind of application.

The SAAS-Base foundation is obviously totally reusable for as many SaaS / Mutli-Tenant applications as you want to build and will save you literally hundreds of hours of research, learning and work.

So, what will be in the box?
Access Levels and VP for SuperAdmin, Admin, Tenant, User, Guest.
Login landing page with Login, SignUp and Forgotten Password.
Structure for Tenant, Account Settings, Transaction History (Plan Changes and Payment)
7 Sample Subscription Features (Default first Feature is Users, 1 Yes/No Feature, 1 Tenant Logo Feature)
Payment Plans structure in place.
Auto initialization of sample Payment Plans
Stripe Payments in place complete with Upgrade and Downgrade plan functionality
Email notifications for subscriptions, plan changes and payments
Instructions for Stripe registration with Aware IM
Instructions for SSL setup with Aware IM
Optimised Business Object structure and relationships to build upon for you app.

What can you do with it?
Imagine you want to build a new multi-tenant SaaS application.
Create a new Business Space and import SAAS-Base.

You now have all of the necessary basics in place right from the get go.
Application structure, Tenancy (SBS not MBS), Plans, Payments, Access Levels.

As soon as you import into you server and copy the support files (css, html, image etc) to the correct locations (instructions provided) you will be able to

Log in as a admin
Log in as a superadmin
Manage Payment Plans, Tenants, Logins, Users
SignUp as a Tenant - New Signups automatically on FREE Plan
Manage your Tenant Account and Transaction History
Manage your Users and Features

Mark, I think/know it's an EXCELLENT idea. I know how much work and pain you have gone through to build this and $1,250 is nothing compared to time saving. The subscription plan, Stripe interface alone would cost more than $1,250 to build by a developer.

A couple of comments to keep in mind:
a) This type of product, is the type that developer would consider it as they're starting a new project and not when they're 50% in with their own structure and planning. So, I suggest NOT to get disappointed if you don't get emails or sales right away. This product is a LONG TERM product and an excellent one. This one is like another AWARE in it's own market. 🙂

b) Secondly, before releasing it I suggest to hold back and do it for V7, as so many of your CSS/HTML and front-end stuff will change with AwareV7, and then you have to support 2 version (V6 and V7). This alone can kill you trying to keep 2 versions going. Hold back, do it with the new UI library and new Mobile and forget V6 support.

c) Did I say, this is a great idea? 😃

Yes...good points and I had considered them.

The difficulty of integrating it into an existing app would vary depending on the app and while doable it not it's intent. It is designed as the Foundation rather than the roof tiling.
But, not as difficult as it was extracting it from my completed SaaS app.

I will most definitely release in V7 as well but happy to put it out there for anyone who is keen to get started.....it will not be a lot of work to convert as the Processes and structure are the most important part and they shouldn't change.

Mark, a few good videos to talk about the strategy you have chosen for each module, would be very helpful. This way, it would identify if and how your methodology would fit for any app. And where people can make changes to fit their needs.

A series of 15 minutes would be great for evaluation and also training purpose.

Another question I have, when you come up with updates, how does one incorporate those updates to his existing system?

A few high level graphic would be helpful to show what objects are created in your system, how those objects are used in your system, so we can see where we need to plug ours in.
For example, many years ago I built a Magic Foundation app. Developer would use my CTRL first and then plug their stuff into that CTRL and integrate their stuff into my foundation. So, I assume it's similar to what you're doing.

Education will help people to step forward to your product, since many, get nervous of "Black Boxes".
Is this a joint venture with Awaresoft? This product can be a boost in Aware's sales since it helps a new comer a big jump ahead.

Love to see this product takes off!

Mark,

I have developed a foundation for multi-tenancy as well but yours looks quite interesting. Yours with the payment processing goes beyond what I have done but there is one thing that I required, that was quite difficult to do and was wondering if you have that ability as well. If so, we your added features I would be interested. I call it cross tenancy.

Basically lets assume, there are businesses (Tenant), Accountants, and Customers. Let's assume that out of 10 businesses (tenanta), 3 use the same accountant. I need the accountant to have access to the 3 Tenants through a single login (email address). So what happens when the accountant logs in, it displays the various tenants he has access to, and can work on that tenant. The Standard way would be for the Tenants to create a login for accountant, but each could be different and the accountant does want to have different login names. There are lots of issues regarding the login password, has to be changed by the accountant, not tenant. Tenant cannot change login name, etc. Same for customers. There are a ton of issues, involved in this, and am wondering if you have this built in as along with the other features as it would very appealing.

Basically, my app is business accounting where accountants and customers can log into their accounts to view and work on data, with one login.

Let me know if you have this and when a demo would be available as my app is on hold until later in year.

Hi Mark,

SAAS-Base does not handle that at the moment as it is set up from the perspective of a SaaS operator who has many Tenants. Never really thought of a situation
where a Tenant would want an external party log into their account.

However, that being said, I do implement a very similar thing in my AB-Sense application where by an Admin or Coordinator can have access to multiple Entities across multiple Countries at the discretion of the SuperAdmin. Was no difficult to implement.

Thanks for your response. Someone said you had done 'cross tenancy' so I thought I would check with you because your other features are of interest. Products like Freshbooks, Xero, and I think Quickbooks offer this feature. Vladimir had designed it initially and it was quite complex, but I actually had take his code and work it backwards. Detail record, creates Main record. But as you stated, most cases Tenant applications do not require this and if you need to provide a customer with access, you can create a login for that customer. In my case, Tenants are creating their own accounts, adding customers, accountants, who have access to their data, so I needed and automated way this would work. I created the foundataion, but have been away from it for months with other projects, so I hope I remember when I go back to it, the remaining steps. Thanks again, and for other apps, I will look to see if yours will work for me.

That is sort of correct.

It is basically done except for all the documentation but not pushing hard as will do release in V7.

However, if someone wanted to pursue in V6 then PM me to discuss.
