Best practice for database migration

Hey guys.

This is my situation. I have a CRM I built and a new CRM I built (which is slightly different)

I'd like to backup my old CRM database and move it across to the new CRM and see if there are any conflicts, missing files, relationships etc.

There might be attribute names that are slightly different as well.

So I guess what I'm asking is, do I use phpMyAdmin (I'm on version 3.3.7) or do I try export the BOs using the default export tools and try map back?
