Scanning a bar code as input into an AwareIM process

Guys,

I have been asked whether AwareIM could be used to build a gymnasium membership application. The major requirements are (a) printing a membership card with a unique, member barcode, and (b) the application can scan the bar code to record a visit.

Does anyone know whether AwareIM can handle barcodes in these types of scenarios, and if so, any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi,

Yes it can; I can outline the approach you will need to contend with as an example:

1) add any Barcode font like (free3of9) and create an attibute which is based on a Customer's uniqie ID (Membership) when this is printed it will show up as a barcode and when scanned = that membership

2) the barcode/mag stripe reader (requires development)
the scanner software (which is to be installed) on a PC or in Network needs to have an interface (SDK) which can be allowed to make a call directly from the device to the "installed" SDK/application to a Web interface.

workflow is as follows - "barcode reader" scans card - this is sent to the PC or interface as data - that data can call a Process, after login which takes as input the "barcode" ID

it requires the understanding of HOW to integrate the Barcode reader device using the suppliers SDK, to make that call to AwareIM.
