Updating Date field with Plain Text field using AS_DATE

Hello,

Using AS_DATE on the text field and trying to update the date field with:
SalesInvoiceDate=AS_DATE(SalesDateInvoiced,'MM/dd/yyyy') is not working? Date field still shows blank in Query

SalesInvoice date is a date field formatted as MM/dd/yyyy
SalesDateInvoice is text size 20

do I need to trim the text field in my expression?

Works for me Roger.

Make sure the Date attribute is definitely of type MM/dd/yyyy and not MM/dd/yy

My Action is DateTest.DateDate=AS_DATE(DateTest.StringDate,'MM/dd/yyyy')

Date format in csv file is yyyy-mm-dd. Data was exported to csv from a Pervasive SQL database. PSQL date formats are yyyy-mm-dd.

No matter what I try the date does not import. I created a template to import that data from a csv file.
I created a test BO and made the data an alpha date that used AS_DATE to covert to a date field and update the actual date field but nothing.
I changed the date format to yyyy-MM-dd in the BO, that updated the field but all the dates are the same. 03-20-2015.
Not sure what else to try.

Your info is a bit confusing. The original post mentioned MM/dd/yyyy and the most recent post "Date format in csv file is yyyy-mm-dd".

Have you tried importing the date info info a PLAIN TEXT attribute, then having a rule like Mark's to to the appropriate conversion date format.

I did try to import the date into a plain text attribute and then used AS_DATE to update the date field, that's when all the dates became the same.

I did finally get it to work but it was the long way around the barn!
I exported the table from the original application as a csv file again. This how ever did not work so I opened the csv file in Excel saved the csv as an Excel file then saved the excel file as a csv file again, this version of the csv file import correctly using the template I created in AIM.

This is all very strange considering the other tables I imported into AIM I did the same way using a template and imported a csv file.

You mentioned all the dates are the same…..

The data in the cvs is yyyy-MM-dd

If your date in the BO is anything then AS_DATE(CSVDATE,’yyyy-MM-dd’) should convert it properly.

The fact that it converted a date and then applied it to ALL the dates means that the conversion actually worked….

Setting all the same is a Process problem rather than a conversion problem
You are bringing multiple records into context and applying a single value to all of them
For the BO you are importing the data into….

Have two attributes StringDate and MyDate

Set a rule in the BO MyDate=AS_DATE(StringDate,’yyyy-MM-dd’)

I think that should work.
