hi guys,

i was asked recently to make a form (on Create) which firsts ask's the user what kind of
lipstick colors they like.

if they choose Red then a "drop down" appears which asks what brands etc..

Qn: Is there any way, on the same form, to have a Drop-down which will cause another to appear?

Hi,

inside foms you can use Separator Rows (conditionally hide/show) based if first is DEFINED or not.

IF BO.attribte IS DEFINED

Another option is using READ PROTECT rules. Here is a couple of examples so you undestand how it works:

If NOT(Bo.Lipstickattribute='Red') Then
READ PROTECT Bo.Brandattribute

If Bo.Lipstickattribute<>'Red' Then
READ PROTECT Bo.Brandattribute

Make sure the rule is dynamic i.e. check the "Use rule in dynamic re-calculation on forms".

i am going to try both and see which works best.

it seems the choices I am supposed to filter are many IF A then B,C or E, then if C - R, Q, or U etc...

i will post back and let you know how it goes

No, READ PROTECT hides the label as well as the attribute.

I had tried to use READ PROTECT and ran into some side effect and it was the READ PROTECT causing it. So if it wasn't the Label, there was something else. Keep an eye on this.

tested and worked (READ PROTECT)

here is what i did;

created a test BO called A
created 3 attributes called qn1,qn2,qn3 (question 1, question 2..etc)
created a Rule on BO A

IF A.qn1=<>'Yes' THEN READ PROTECT A.qn2 FROM ALL

thanks - will post back if we build it out and notice any issues

I Use RP extensively like this so shouldn't be any issues. Don´t know what Ben ran into, maybe some special scenario.
