clarifying what can be used in custom view drop down

i want to make a custom view for a drop down referenced attribute with parent and child in the same BO and i don't know if it possible since some instances got parent and some don't.
as i look at the CRM example i see this code for InstantMessage BO Recipients attribute

i see some "tpl if="OnlineStatus == 'Online'" how can this be possible if we only allowed to add HTML?

Strictly speaking what you are allowed to use here is not just plain HTML, but Sencha library's XTemplates which are HTML with support for conditions and references to data. Please refer to the Sencha documentation here for all the details:
