Why can't we have IF, THEN,ELSE in a query?

I really need to have an If/Then/Else statement when building query, so I can check certain values and according to the value result, I can then have the proper FIND executed.
But I get error message with invalid query statement.

Is there a way to have a single query with conditional FIND?

Can you give an example of what you are trying to accomplish?

Not sure what you are getting at but you can certainly have complex conditional find queries as in

find bo where (bo.attrib1 = a AND bo.arrrib2 = b) OR (bo.attrib1 = c AND bo.attrib2 = d) AND bo.attrib3 CONTAINS 'xxxxx'

How complex do you need it.

In a process or BO rule, you can certainly have IF THEN ELSE statements What you CAN'T have (or at least I've never got one to work) is an ELSE IF - but you can usually find another way round most things

What I'm trying to do is to have several different FIND statements. i.e.

If TYPE (LoggedInSystemUser)='Customer' Then FIND xxxxxxxx
Else
If TYPE (LoggedInSystemUser)='Owner' Then FIND yyyyyyyy

Hope this is more clear.

With above example, I only want one of these FINDs to get executed depending on the result of the "IF" statement.

Yep, what Rocketman said .. you can do that sort if IF in a process, but not in a query.

If you describe a bit more about what you are trying to accomplish we could likely help you with a work around.

I ended up creating multiple queries and have the IF statement in a Process to call either of those queries depending on the IF result. But I was trying to avoid creating multiple queries.
