Hi,

Is there a way to create a view in awareim instead of a real table? The reason for such request is that views in itself can provide the security of what the user can see / update / delete in the database.

You can not create a view in AwareIM per se. But you can create a view in MSSQL and access it from AwareIM by creating a new BO with the Persistence set to Database: existing external and in Settings enter the Database and view.

Hi,

I know that but the issue is that we are creating all the exisiting MSSQL tables into AwareIM Business Objects so we can use other functionalities such as Reference, Business Object Groups, etc etc.

I am thinking that I might have to create an external database that just contains views, the views then would be based on the actual tables that AwareIM created?? Will this work?

why not just import the views (or tables) into aware tables. And when I say import, use SQL to delete / insert. That way you have all the features that aware offers. Make fields calculated that you want to make read only. Use access levels to control what the user can see / do.

Sometimes you just want to put a modern Kendo/JS skin on an otherwise solid, mature, maintained application, which has its own UI, and perhaps even mobile apps, based on a specific MySQL or SQL Server schema, at least as a "bridge" to a long-term solution, but maybe as a part of the long-term solution - it's better to not mess with the schema, so that the default/standard UI of the application, especially the tools you don't want to rewrite, stays usable. I am working in that scenario now.

Hi,

We ended up using awareim business objects instead of views. We weighed the pros and cons and for what we need and want, writing everything in awareim seems to be the best solution.
