Setting Plain Text Atribute to "Variable Length" size?

I have a Memo field that I wouldn't know at design time what the size would be. In Aware, how do we assign "Variable Length" size to a "Plain Text" attribute?

But I would never know the size. It's a memo field, where one user my type 5 char and another user may type 5000 char.

In MS SQL, we used "varchar" as type and for size we put "max", which provided variable length. I need something like that.

Just put a big number in - 1000 or 2000 or 5000. This will make sure Aware IM allocates "textual blob" field at the database level.

This was exactly the intention I was looking for to force Aware to create "text blob".

One other question. Does Aware use the functionality of the backend database (MySQL or MS SQL) to only use the space that user types in OR will it allocate the space that we we entered as the size, i.e. 8000 == 8K?

Hi Ben,
By default, on our MSSQL, all PlainText attributes goes in as varchar. so it will only use up the space the user types in.

Thank you... Just checked and looks like Aware also uses varchar in MySQL (The DB I'm using for this project) which solves my problem.
