You can both:
- Limit the number of Tabs opened from a Query to a specific number; and or,
- Limit the number of Tabs opened from/for an Object Instance in a Query.
You just need to have an intermediary Object, 'OpenTab', with at least the Attributes, 'QueryName' and 'InstanceID', as a control point.
Instead of a panel or item operation Button of a Query running a Query directly (and a Tab opening), instead change it to run a Process to run the Query just like if a form needed to be opened.
Before the process runs the Query or opens the Form it will check OpenTab instances to see if that Instance is already open in a Tab, and if so notify the user that a tab MIGHT be open (unless they closed it by clicking X), including even telling them it is the, eg. 10th tab.
All that is needed to complete the functionality in terms of perfectly controlling the Tab aspect of the UX are:
SWITCH TO TAB Action (or 'SELECT TAB')
setting for the Frame, 'Run Process After Tab Closed (by User not 'CLOSE TAB' Acton)'
setting for the Frame, 'Run Process When Tab Selected (by User not 'SWITCH TO TAB' Action)'
setting for a Close button, 'Run process after form closed'
and 4. are needed because if the user closes the Tab by clicking X or the Close button the relevant Instance won't be removed from OpenTab.
