Pitch In - Gantt Chart print functionality

Hi All,

Support have provided me with a quote to add printing functionality to the new Gantt Chart feature in AwareIM.

When I asked support how it would work, they responded with the following:

“most likely it will capture the image of the Gantt as it is displayed on the screen at that moment. Then an image will be captured in an attribute of an object that can then be used in PDF. This is how it has been done for charts.”

This, in my opinion, would be a great addition to the Gant functionality and I’m asking if any users can also contribute to the cost of this? The figure quoted by support is $600 USD

I'm willing to if support change their mind on this one and make it part of standard AwareIM and not a pay for option.

Its been six months now and so I'm just wondering if there are many people using the Gantt functionality these days?

I would love to hear from you if you are, how you get on with them and in particular if you have any good way of printing Gantt charts?

Is there anyone who is now willing to chip in on this development?

I was supposed to use it heavily for a project. But another project came through which pushed my Gantt project back for another month or so.

To those who are not using it for the extra charge of $500. Here is my opinion:
Awaresoft has integrated a third party Gantt chart control into the Aware system. In ASP.Net, I had to do the same integration with another third party, to make it persistent to Database, ability to communicate with their API, ability to provide functionality to create Tasks/subtasks and it's relationships to other tasks and many more.
It's a LOT of work, just to integrate it. Looking at how Awaresoft has done the integration, the $500 you pay is a fraction, compared to the amount work team has done. If you need Gantt, $500 is well worth every penny, as if you had to do the integration yourself. The same goes with their Mobile and the new Responsiveness.

Just my two cents. Hope it helps!

Hi Ben,

I completely agree with your opinion and some things are worth paying the extra for!

I would happily pay for Gantt charts and I really want to integrate them into my main application. The thing that holds me back is no proper way of printing. Gantt charts would have to be printable for my users. I can't justify the cost of the Gantt chart option and then another $600 to be able to print them.

Surely there must be others who want to be able to include their Gantt charts in reports? Others must be able to chip in on this one?

Ben, if you plan to use Gantt charts in the future wouldn't this be an investment for you? Can you pledge anything?

When I get back to that project, I have to re evaluate my needs. But "Printing" was not requested.

Sure, I can also understand the extra money for additional functionality BUT when we already pay a yearly fee (as I am sure most of us does every year) for a feature set, I don´t think charging extra is justified. Aware IM is further developed all the time and the cost already spent every year should IMO cover ALL features (and if we don´t pay the yearly fee, we don´t get the latest features, the latest updates to features etc.). When it comes to charging extra for things like mobile option where Awaresoft themselves pay an extra fee PER USER, that is another thing and OK I think.

another point to note this is not a once of charge, the next time you renew your licence you will be charged again for this item... at least that's what i understand - please could support confirm this ?
