Document - File System Struggles

Hi There

For the life of me I cannot seem to get the File System Functionality to Work. How do you set the file path With ENTER NEW. I don't want to do a CREATE TestDoc WITH TestDoc.FilePath='C:\RPMSDocs\etc etc' because if the user cancels then an empty record will be created.

So is it possible to set the FilePath when the user Saves ENTER NEW.

Ideally I Want to set it to:
TestDoc.FilePath='C:\RPMSDocs\'+TestDoc.ID+'\'+FILE_NAME(TestDoc.Document)+'.'+FILE_EXTENSION(TestDoc.Document)

So that Each document lies in it's own directory and and I want to set the extention so that I Can open the documents outside the system if I needed.

However I get an error:

"Exception message C:\RPMSDocs (Access is denied). File path C:\RPMSDocs\ may be invalid"

Any tips will be Highly Appreciated.

Hi Hein,
Does the CREATE action with the same path work? The problem might be with the additional path parameters i.e. EXTENSION etc.. One thing you can probably do if you cant figure it out is to combine a ENTER NEW action with a CREATE action having the CREATE action executed only after the ENTER NEW action has been saved?

Just a stab in the dark, you might not have the access rights to create the file.
Have got full administrator access to the server PC?

I use this:

c:\awareim\tomcat\webapps[myappfolder]\temp

You have to create the temp folder. Once you do, you and your users should be able to access the folder and create subfolders as needed.

And references to foldername are case sensitive.

I successfully managed to find the solution. See in the link above. I have managed to store the Documents where I want on the server, C:\APPDOCS for example (not just in AWAREIM folder)...

Hi All!

Thank you so much for all the input. I think I finally got it working by Setting a Temp Folder and then EXPORTING to the desired folder after the object has been created and resetting the FilePath.

I guess I was afraid that By setting a temp folder there would be duplicates of the file which is undesirable but I see now that the temp folder always contains only the last entry so this solution seems to be perfect. 🙂

Will let you know if I hit any other obstacles.
