Display a picture on visual perspective.

Hi All,

I want to display a 'profile picture' in the homepage of a visual perspective that is used on a mobile version. The picture is stored in the logged in users BO. The homepage is built using HTML and CSS.
I know that if I have aware run a process and copy the picture attribute to the file system then I can call the picture with a simple HTML img tag but I'm just wondering if the is a way of calling it directly from the database so it doesn't have to be stored in the file system too?

Alternate method.

Try this if the picture file is not too large.
I use this method to display my logo on all my invoices and quotes etc...
It's the picture is always the same, you don't have to store it at all. In your case, every user would have a different pic.

Encode the picture file as Base64 code (not sure if built in Base64 encoder will encode pics properly)

Store the encoded output in an attribute.
I haven't tried, but out-of-the-box Base64 encode might do the trick and using process rules to encode and store the encoded value.
Use the Encoded Output as your HTML image source.

I think the AwareIm Base64 encoder encryption is different for security purposes and might not work in on picture files.

Can you confirm if the Base64 encoder is standard?
If not, can this be added to the wishlist?

You can just refer to a picture attribute in your HTML:

<<MyObject.PictureAttr>>

At runtime this should be automatically converted to an image HTML tag:

Thanks support. I now have this working.

The mistake I was making was that I was putting the MyObject.Picture inside a HTML img attribute. I didn't realise that aware would parse the object into a HTML img tag! However, I couldn't get it to work using <<MyObject.PictureAttr>> this just seem to display the attribute name rather than the image. But <<MyObject.PictureAttr>> does work.

The other problem I had was trying to scale the picture - the image loads full size (couldn't get the containing div or span to affect the scale, but I am a HTML and CSS novice) The work around for this was to create another attribute MyObject.PictureAttrSmall and then used the SCALE_IMAGE function to populate this attribute from the original. This also works great.

Next problem is that the image is displayed sideways but I think this is a bug in mobile picture upload so have posted a problem report.

v5.9 b1893 now includes a IMAGE_DATA function that converts images stored in Picture attributes to a Base 64 string.

This is great for HTML documents. Instead of specifying the physical source path to your image, you now use this function instead.
You can also store Base 64 strings in separate attributes for other uses.
