Understanding BO Groups

I am still having trouble understanding how to leverage BO Groups.

I have seen the several examples used for communication but are there any other examples where BO Groups are useful? It would be nice to see how else it can be used.

Another example is in the Documents Management sample application. There are also system-managed groups like SystemUser and Appointments.

If there are several concepts that are sufficiently different to warrant managing them by different business objects and yet having some commonality - that's when you create business object groups.

I use groups extensively. One example is for a site search facility. All you need to do is to have one attribute the same on all your BOs and then place all the BOs in one group. Therefore you can create a query on the group searching/filtering on the common descriptive attribute. Let's say you have a Tasks BO and a Customer BO and an Invoice BO. The descriptive attribute common to all three is called Subject say. For the task its a description of the task. For the Customer maybe their name and for the invoice it could be the product being sold. So a user searches for something and up comes tasks, customers and invoices that contain the search. You have an edit/view button next to each row in the query which displays each BO using its own form.

I will explore with BO Groups more. They sound powerful, just have to learn how best to leverage them.
