Moving AwareIM from one server to another

Hi group.
I have had AwareIM running on a server without trouble for several years. It is still the old version 3.0. I haven't upgraded it as it does the job just fine and if the wheel aint broke don't fix it.

The problem is that that server is now being deactivated for good and I have to get AwareIM off it and on to a new machine. The records in the database have to be preserved.

Is there a way to move it from one machine to another?

Your license is for a particular server only, so you will need to move your license to a new machine and unregister the old version. You also need to have an Aware IM distributable of version 3.0 so that you can install it on the new machine.

Thanks Support. I have the distributable for 3.0. I just need the new key to install it. I contacted support and they told me to purchase a support ticket.

Surely I don't need a support ticket for something as simple as providing another key. I am certainly not paying any more for this product. I am continuing to keep it only because the data in the database is valuable.

However, I am now considering that I might just be better off exporting it and deleting awareim.

Well after a lot of messing around and a support ticket later, AwareIM Support managed to get the old database re-registered.

This has proven to be quite a difficult job and couldn't have been done without the help of AwareIM Support. I thank them and recommend to other users to keep their software updated.

I need to migrate my existing version 4.9 build 1359 to a new VM server. The SQL database which is hosted on a different server will remain as is. How do I install without wiping out the existing AwareIM DB/environment on the SQL DB server? It has been a while since I've done a install. I do recall that the installer asks where the DB will be hosted and then creates it. I don't want to create a new DB because I will then destroy my production data.

What are the steps to properly move the application server piece where the AwareIM is hosted?

I believe you are in the same situation. You can install from the redistributable, if you have it, or alternatively, you can just zip the AwareIM folder and move it. to its new home. This may be beneficial since you will not need to configure the database connection or anything else you may have changed. But, as stated earlier, the AwareIM product is licensed to the machine so you need to move your license just like paddo2002. AwareSoft has a fairly simply procedure for this.

If AwareSoft requires a support ticket for this, I believe it's in their right if you have not kept your product current and paid annual maintenance fees. I do not know their policy on this and am not speaking for them.
