Can Aware generate a GUID key?

Hello;

For my app, I need to ask Aware to generate a GUID key and pass it back to me. I searched all the docs and didn't find any. Does anyone know if Aware can generate GUID key?

Hint: I'm not using this as part of my Database Primary key. It's used for other purposes.

No. You need a custom function for this. That is, if you REALLY need GUID - in most cases you just need a unique id for your app. Aware IM generates a unique ID for each instance of the object - Object.ID. This ID is unique across all Aware IM database.

As mentioned in my first post, this Unique ID is going to be assigned to an attribute that will be used for a specific purpose, i.e. a serial number to a product or etc.
Can I ask obtain this unique ID from Aware that was generated by Aware to use it in my app? If yes, then I don't need GUID/UUID.

You can always get access to ID from rules by using Object.ID

Why don't you create a unique ID when the app is launched for the first time ? It could be Process launched and initialisation, like :

( Guid being the BO where you will store the GUID ref ) :

If COUNT Guid='0' Then CREATE Guid
SEND GuidEmail TO Manager

....and to make sure to have a diferent GUID for each app, just make a complicate calculate field :

BO. GUIDNumber= CHARS_FROM_LEFT(Customer.Name,3)+DAY_OF_THE_WEEK+CHARS_FROM_RIGHT(Customer_ID)+BO.RandomNumber+CURRENT_MINUTE
