It is IMPOSSIBLE to consume REST-ful services automatically.
SOAP web services have a format (called web services definition language - WSDL) that defines how web services are exposed to the outside world. This has its pros and cons. The pros include the ability for Aware IM to use such services automatically. But one of the cons is that the standard is very complicated and using it non-automatically is a pain. Hence REST.
REST has no standard format, but using it non-automatically is very easy. BUT there is no standard that would allow Aware IM to "discover" REST-ful services - each application has it's own conventions.
So if you want to consume REST-ful services you must write a plugin each time (or in some cases you can get away with using the URL_CONTENTS function). The plugin in most cases is quite straightforward, though.
