DevNet (Codestore / discussions)

Hi all,
I will continue the work with the DevNet system over the coming months and I have a couple of thoughts/comments:

Codestore:
I have been thinking about the Codestore idea. Having a codestore where developers can post + download free and buy and download premium BSV´s. The idea is kind of validated I think, just look at the last couple of things that has been shared (e.g linneamovil´s application BSV, powerm´s TTS BSV, pbrad´s web services BSV and Rocketmans PayPal BSV) and having a system in place would enable a process to handle these things and I for one like this idea and think it can help developers speed up development etc. AND also it could possible encourage developers to maybe try complex things and then sell/share them with the whole community.

What do you all think?

DevNet discussions:
When it comes to the DevNet as a system etc., there has not been much discussion and that is to bad and I was thinking about possible reposting the DevNet questions etc. (posted on the DevNet site) here in the forums to see if that would help start the discussions? Any thoughts?

Hi,
I like the idea of beefing up the codestore section. With respect to the discussions, just a couple of observations: I think that duplication of posts on both forums is redundant. Perhaps this forum should continue to serve the function that it does as a support forum and that your site would pick up from there and not try to compete with this forum but to provide functionality or discussion topics that are not covered by this forum.

That being said, I am pretty used to coming into this forum and easily identifying which threads have been viewed by me and which ones haven't. I may be wrong but your forum doesn't seem as convenient in this respect.

Anyway, I for one appreciate the effort that you have/are making. I think that we just need to figure out which role each solution plays and push the use of that solution for that role.

Firstly I think you've done a great job so far with the devnet and I think it's great that your willing to put so much effort in for the benefit of the comunity.

For what it's worth I just wanted to give my opinion and some feedback.

I'm not convinced that having a forum here and discussion in another location is the best way forward. I don't think I would often search this forum and then the on devnet too. I think it would be best to keep discussion in one place and use the other features of the devnet that you have put in place.
I think the kick start area is a great idea and look forward to seeing proposals there and chipping in for new features.
The knowledge base, I'm sure and I hope, will come into its own and it think this will be a great way for us to share knowledge and development techniques and will allow us to extract knowledge from the aware veterans.
Most of all I think the idea of the code store is a great one. I like the idea of having a central place to store shared BSV's. I hope that as I become a more seasoned aware developer I will have some worthwhile content / BSV's to share too. I think this could also provide a good 'market place' for aware developers to sell generic BSVs to newcomers with a not so technical background for example. A bit like rocketmans paypal BSV and pbrads aware tools.

When it comes to the Codestore idea, good to hear there´s an interest. I have also thought about possible creating this in AIM (something like Rocketmans Paypal BSV portal), the only problem is where, on which server the application should/could be? (anyone got "room"?). It might be simpler to create a simple version of the Codestore system on the DevNet site (I am sure there are Joomla components I can use to build this) and then possible look at a more advanced system in the future?

When it comes to the discussion platform (s), the objective of the DevNet discussion platform was never to compete or replace the Awaresoft forum (this is also clearly described in the posts where I introduced DevNet and e.g. the discussions platform). In my head, a developer network have to have a platform for discussions and it can be the Awaresoft forum or it can be something like DevNet discussions (or a combination of the two) and I don´t really think the platform is important, what´s important is that we discuss things. I don´t know what´s the best next step, what are your thoughts?

Hi all,

After the lack of engagement I have disabled the DevNet discussions module. The module is fully functional (NB: Bugs are now fixed) and we can always enable it again in the future if this is something we want/agree to do. Any thoughts on this or other thoughts regarding previous "open questions"?

Regarding Codestore, I have started looking at Joomla extensions that might work as/for the Codestore module.
